    Hi OP,

You should definately ignore these trolls. They just like knocking upset people whilst they are down.

You should refer to the company handbook about this. If there is nothing there with regards to this you should definately go and see the doctor. Doctor will sign you off with stress. You can then sue the employer because they are definately breaching your human rights. I would also demand better working regulations, and get something in writing allowing you to put your coat on the back of your chair in the future.

    YES THIS IS ALL SARCASM

Also, are you a member of any union? Maybe they can help or there are other people with similar problems?

I absolutely ruined a coat getting it trapped in the wheels of my chair, tried to pull it & ripped the lining - if we'd had that policy it never would have happened.
So actually, the employer insists on a coathanging policy to protect the employees clothing?

I hang my coat on a stand as placing it on a chair stretches the material. I don't see how this is a bad thing unless you don't like to empty your coat of valuables.
  • Same here, although i sometimes stick my blazer jacket and my mgr dont really care about that!

    Why is it strange?

Can think of a few reasons related to professionalism, hygiene and health and safety that would explain it. Security as well.

Don't see why anyone would waste their time being aggrieved by this.
Lol I mostly agree with you but I was wearing a v. good suit jacket into work one day (internal interview) and hung it up because it was blooming roasting (air con was ALWAYS broken) and it went walkabout. I saw someone else from the office wearing a very similar jacket shortly afterwards but I didn't want to make a fuss. Even though it was my jacket. She was a manager  I got the promotion so moved to a different office and never had the guts to go back to look for it and have now moved to a different company altogether.
The nerve of some people!!! I guess it is my fault for being timid.

ETA: The given reason in our workplace was so the office looked professional to any clients who might visit. I doubt it made a big difference, hellhole it was.

Non smokers can have serious issues here if told to hang their coats near to or on top of those of smokers, your own picks up the stench and you then take it home with you.

I have got around this in the past by folding mine up under my desk - in a plastic bag if necessary.

My OH's workplace decided they wanted no coats hanging on backs of chairs, and they had to be hung up on coat hooks. Majority of the team objected to this as they didn't want their coats smelling of cigarette smoke from smokers jackets, so they got to keep their coats on their chairs.

I had my coat hanged on the back of my chair. I have been told by the manager that I'm not allowed to put my coat at the back of my chair. Instead, I have to put it on a coat hanger/stand.

Anybody have a company policy where you can't hang your coat at the back of your chair?

    I find it strange. :o

    Hi book12,

    Coats + 'spinny' chairs = disaster :)

Also, it's unsightly to have coats draped on the back of chairs, especially if it's a business dress environment.
