Company policy - coats on coat hangers/stand, instead of back of chairs

I had my coat hanged on the back of my chair. I have been told by the manager that I'm not allowed to put my coat at the back of my chair. Instead, I have to put it on a coat hanger/stand.

Anybody have a company policy where you can't hang your coat at the back of your chair?

I find it strange. :o

    Why is it strange?

Can think of a few reasons related to professionalism, hygiene and health and safety that would explain it. Security as well.

Don't see why anyone would waste their time being aggrieved by this.

It is a health and safety measure. It may not be written down in a policy, but it is common.

    How come it's a health & safety measure? :o
  • I would imagine it could be a H&S concern if the coat drapes onto the floor and could potentially trip up other workers who pass your desk

I absolutely ruined a coat getting it trapped in the wheels of my chair, tried to pull it & ripped the lining - if we'd had that policy it never would have happened.

  • Not sure if it's a policy but we have to do that at our workplace. Same reasons as mentioned, health and safety. In case the coat gets caught on the wheels of the chair.

    Geez.

    Refused holiday? A problem...
Not getting paid overtime? A problem...
Being off sick and not being paid? A problem...
Can't get to work because of snow? A problem...
    Unfair expectations? A problem...
Diciplinary but no procedure? A problem...

    Hang your coat up?

    Is that a problem?

I try in vain to defend employers sometimes, but sometimes you want to wring the neck of some employees.

Just wait until Ceridwen gets here.
