Selling a car for scrap

Not sure I am on the right board but does anyone know the rate for scrapping a car at the moment.

My daughter got £180.00 about eighteen years ago. My Dad is going to stop driving and wants to scrap his car which although goes and has an MOT is a 1989 model, we were wondering if the value of metal had gone up or down.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Out of interest what is the car and model? There's a small chance some parts would be worth something.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you'd be looking at less than £180 at the moment.

£60 a tonne seems to be average, so unless its 3 tonne you wont get £180. Like already said some parts maybe worth a bit or just list on ebay at £50 start and get whatever you get for it.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • I scrapped my Fiat Multipla back at the end of September and got £150 for it. Would have liked more but at least that paid for my car tax on my next car. Make sure you get a certificate of destruction from the scrappy so you can let the DVLA its been destroyed and are not liable for car tax anymore.

I presume you mean months not years!

If you dont fancy breaking the car ofr parts yourself i would say throw it on ebay as spares or repair - even with a short MOT it will almost certainly go for more than scrap prices.
