Hi Guys,
I wonder if you can help, I'm looking for a decent office suite for Ubuntu that still keeps all the formatting as close as possible to original MS Office 2003 Word documents written on a Windows platform.
I've used openoffice in the past and with my CV, written in office2k3 it loses most of the formatting once opened in openoffice. All the indents, too far in or not enough etc... Does NOT look good when applying for jobs!
Basically I have a 3 or 4 yr old IBM lappy, running 1.6Ghz single core, CPU with 2GB RAM and 128GB SDD running Windows 7 RC. (I get a W7 score of 1.9 due to the CPU, but everything else isn't too bad esp the RAM and Hard Disk). (Works pretty well with W7 even streaming video off iPlayer, not tried HD though, but decent enough on a 12")
I know the W7RC will expire soon, and since I'm unemployed I don't have the funds to buy a W7 license. (I think Vista would be a resource hog and kill the lappy, and XP may not play nice with the SDD/flash drive, i.e kill it with too many writes for the temp swap space etc... I Think W7 and Ubuntu 9.10, using ext3 have much better support for this).
Thanks in advance to any recommendations.

I prefer AbiWord to OpenOffice Writer. I tend to use OpenOffice for spreadsheets though.0

You could give Google Docs a try.0

I think OpenOffice is the best suite available for Ubuntu. You could use KOffice as well.
Office 2007 can run through WINE, but it doesn't work fully.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Thanks for the responses guys.
Will give them a go. BTW with GoogleDocs can you edit files offline? (i.e without internet connection?)
