Tempted by their introductory ISA rate, they said the transfer from my current ISA wouldn't take long.
3 months later I chased them.
They said the hold up was with my bank?
Checked Natwest had not received a request and A&L couldn't find evidence they'd sent it.
I asked for them to cancel it as it made a mockery of the increased rate offer missing out by a quarter of the year. They ignored my request.
I tried to close it they wouldn't do it in the branch, it can't be done online. So on the phone... they refused to do it until I spoke to the 3rd person. (First gave me a fax number to ring, the Second refused to help or put me through to a superior.)
Note their rate is now 0.88% I'm glad to be shot of them!

I had completely the opposite experience with A&L. I called them because they had charged me for being overdrawn - when I actually hadn't been. They refunded the charge immediately and paid me for calling their premium rate number (didnt ask for that).
Having said that, this was before Santander took over. Maybe things have changed.0 -
I ditched A&L when they replaced overdraft interest with a 50p daily charge.
That was in the days when the credit interest would cancell out going into the red for a couple of days at the end of the month.0
