a colleague at work has been told to check in at edinburgh airport at 3 in the morning at the latest for a 7 am flight!!

is this normal?

ridiculous if true in my opinion!

  • What flight is it for?
Some airlines say check in is open 4 hours before, doesnt mean you have to be there 4 hours before.
Id say its always best to get there as early as possible, that way you are less likely to be kicked off if they have over booked and you have more chance of picking decent seats and being next to each other.
4 hours does seam a bit excessive though
Depends which flights it is i guess.

The only time I have been told to take 4 hours and have needed it is on an El Al flight to Israel. Otherwise it seems excessive especially in a relatively small airport like Edinburgh.

If they are flying in Europe I would say that was excessive, the earliest I have been told to check in was 3 hours when I was flying to America but that was from Heathrow and I normally allow myself a bit extra time just in case things go wrong.

Probably not, The staff go home about 10pm. Last year our flight was diverted there and after sitting on the tarmac for an hour the cabin crew & pilot had to off load the baggage, we then had to collect our luggage from the tarmac and carry it into the airport:rolleyes2
