The letters are all the same across the board.natweststaffmember wrote: »All banks are sending letters out saying the same thing. New advice will be available here and I would sign up to Martin's newsletter and he will point you to it in the next few weeks.
There is probably nothing you can do.
If you want to be a total bad b*stard about it, refer it to the Ombudsman. The bank is charged £500 for this outright. Won't help you get your charges back, but hurts their wallets.
(Only do this if you're sad/childish.

If you're claim is for £250 would the bank not just not pay it out instead of £500 to the FOS?0 -

This is nonsense.
The bank only incur a fee if the complaint is upheld. And as no bank charges claim has ever been upheld by the FOS it's not cost the banks a penny so far.
And as for your other comments people have an unchallengeable right to complain to the Ombudsman as they see fit.0 -
Are you sure? the FOS website says:Alpine_Star wrote: »This is nonsense.

.At this initial stage, based on the business's final response to the consumer and on what the complaint seems to be about, we may decide the complaint:- is not something we deal with or
- involves a problem that can be nipped in the bud straight away, without escalating the matter further.
There's another page about paying the fee even if the complainant loses:

I'm going on what the FOS Technical Dept told me - that they have never got to the stage of considering the merits of a bank charges claim (as the banks settled before it got that far) and as such no fees were incurred.0

I too have had a letter from Lloyds. My argument is that they have not been consistent with their charges to me. Some £30 some £60 and one I found which I never new about was for £100!!! I agree that the banks should charge something for consistently going over drawn or returning DD's etc but the level of charge does seem high and inconsistent! Is there nothing more we can do?0

.....if you are merely challenging the level of charges rather than the fairness of them. So there is something you can do but you cannot simply argue penalties or the level of the charge being too high

Only do a claim to the FOS if you are 100% certain what you are doing prior to any further advice from MSE cos posting sad/childish advice doesn't work or help
