in Credit cards
Hi I'm after some advice about 18months ago I went into Halifax to talk about overdraft issues I was having. I walked out with a credit card as I had been "automatically accpeted" my credit rating is poor and I had been refused credit and finance before this card was issued. I am now trying to switch to another card to give myself some breathing space as the interest is crippling but am unable to do so as I'm still being refused due to a poor credit rating. Are Halifax operating within thier duty of care not to lend me money I can't afford by issuing me with an automatic acceptance? Any suggestions for switching to a card with interest free or at least a better rate, Im now with A&L but do not qualify for thier stantander credit card as rating still too poor. HELP!

Was it not your duty to exert some self control?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

Yes, they don't force you to spend on it after all. All you can do is continue to make at least the minimum payment and do some additional homework on how to improve your credit rating. At some point in time you'll be able to shift the debt onto 0% but it could take some time. Key thing now is you don't make your credit rating any worse or you'll just be digging a hole for yourself. You don't have the option of a 0% overdraft for 12 months on your A&L account?"A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -

- You are a poor risk hence the high interest
- You are refused elsewhere
- You readily accepted a card knowing full well you could not pay the balance
Maybe you should blame yourself rather than the bank.0 -
