yes, it should clean up the last of the infection

follow the instructions for running it I posted above :)

if you have trouble getting into safe mode then try this way

To use the System Configuration Utility method
    • Close all open programs.
    • Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
    • The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
    • The computer restarts in Safe mode.
    • Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
I'm off out in a sec but we have dealt with the worst of the infection and I'll pop in later to check or Pchelpman may be along ...Ewido should sort out the rest :)

another question , is your subscription to Nortons up to date ??

  • I've just run Vundo and it says no infected files found :o
  • ok, I'm now just going to trot off and run Ewido. This is much more fun than doing the cleaning!!!

Hope Ewido is easy to run. Anything complicated and my brain seizes up. I do make lovely chocolate cake though, so I guess we all have different talents :D

and don't worry about the number of things it finds , my record stands at 6676 infected files on a friends PC !!!! and it works fine now

  • I've done the install bit but think I went wrong somewhere as I couldn't see 'Additional Options' so I couldn't uncheck those 2 boxes. I installed it anyway and now I am just about to reboot into safe mode. Do you think it will still be ok to do?
  • I ran Ewido, its just finished, found 65 items. I've just rebooted etc but the problem is still in my taskbar and the red box about antimalware still keeps coming up :o

I have to go out soon, so will reply later. Thanks again for all your help so far.

i think nortons is MUCH better than AVG... stay away from AVG, stick with nortons IMO

Well Norton didnt stop SpySheriff from Hijacking my home page,
    AND,

Each move to get out of situation blocked like a cat and mouse chess game

altering Google so that every Google entry from a hijack solution search, took/ redirected the google click back to their " pay to getout site", took a while to realise that.
prevented use of CD-rom to load hijack-this or any other software by turning it into a cd music player, so only a floppy could be used.
    setup Timbucktoo access port
eventually prevented the network card from accessing web, by removing drivers, because I had temporarily for safety reasons dissed the net.
    attempted to disable Administrator password
went onto attempting to get you to change passwords,
ended with no password starup, straight to administrator section, with key loggers and Trojans galore.
    many more nightmares deliberately forgotten.

Sorted thanks to Google, Hijack This, Ewido and Spyware Doctor
