MEAF fees = mortgage exit fees..........
How could you claim back exit fees from current provider?
You can ask the 2004 lender if they charged you on discharge.... what they said they would when you first took the mortgage out..
Please be aware this is not claim back all fees such as early repayment charges, arrangement fees etc ..it is mortgage exit fees (clue is within the 3 words) ........:)0 -

I'm sure you've not inconvienced anyone.
I think the first thing to do is to contact both your current and previous mortgage advisers and ask them for a data protection request. This will included a full schedule of all charges that they have applied to your accouint. You might have to pay £10 to get it. Best to send a cheque with the letter. There will be a guide to reclaiming unfair charges on here soon.0 -
thanks chrisharri for the info you obviously read my post properly i will be doing letters to both very shortly will post with any news good or bad thanks again0

Hi forgive me if I am wrong but I remember reading something either on this forum or the consumer action group forum, that it was unwise to go after your current mortgage provider for excessive fees as it could make life more difficult for you in the future with them ie if you run into further difficulties or need to re-mortgage? Has anyone actually tried to get charges back from their current provider?0

Kazie - that's just what I was wondering.
My mortgage lender (i.e; the agent(s) I speak to whenever I phone up) is unsympathetic at the best of times. I know I regularly get charges of around £30 added on to my overall outstanding balance while I'm behind on payments. I don't know exactly how much I'm being charged coz they never send statements or put anything in writing. But, frankly, I'm scared to ask as I worry they'll get more !!!!ed off at me and find some reason to hike up/add on more charges just to show who's boss! Dealing with my lender is a nightmare. I think the agents must be on commission coz they chase late payments really aggressively and won't entertain any meaningful discussion that might include government help schemes like Homeowner Support, etc. Even the CAB lady I enlisted to help me talk to them was quite taken aback by how blinkered, stubborn, and aggressive the company official she spoke to was. CAB intervention achieved nothing positive that day, but afterwards the pushy phonecalls from my lender, demanding immediate payment, increased noticably.
I know it sounds a bit pathetic, but maybe it's as well to just not make waves..?
Cheers
