C3 1.4HDI Dashboard failure?

Hi,

I was just driving along this morning when suddenly the digital speed started reading zero, the trip computer vanished, all the lights on the dahsboard lit up, the fuel light flashing on and off (full tank) and the radio making a high pitch beep.. beep.. beep.

Car drove fine still. Pulled over into work car park and removed ignition but everything stayed the same. I restarted and it did not help.

I had to remove the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes and reattach to reset it all.

Does anybody know what caused this? Could it be the computer system just crashed?

My mileage and speed returned to normal after removing the battery though. I can only find one other case on Google. The answer on that forum was a potential faulty ignition switch but that did not ring true to me as it manifested itself in mid journey.

Just drove it home 20 miles and no more problems.
