Halifax, refusing to take cash deposit over the counter

Halifax branch in Streatham London refused cash deposit over the counter, instead asked me to use the deposit envelope.
The lady at the counter said it's the banks "rule" if you are depositing for a third party, and that there was nothing she could do about it.
Is this normal? sorry I haven't been to a halifax well over a few years now.

I hope not, and I hope it doesn't extend to cheques as well. I have a few to pay in for DS.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

If it's a rule, it's a new one - I regularly pay cash into my partner's account, and did so last week without any trouble at all.0

I have seen this happen if it busy and a long queue, a member of staff will come out and ask if any one wants to pay via deposit envelope but no it must be a new rule.0

That is absolute nonsense. You can still pay into a third party's account over the counter.0 -
My OH just tried the Brixton branch as well, they said the same thing

i think it depends on the type of account. i was horrified when i tried to pay into my daughters account ove rthe counter and was told i couldnt. not sure what type of account it is but she's 16 and has a visa electron cash card with it0

Horrified? Tad bit melodramatic. Some accounts (Easycash) don't have counter service. If there weren't other ways to deposit, then perhaps I would be "horrified".Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0
