Sainsburys credit card statements arrive after due payment date

Hi,

My December Sainsburys credit card statement arrived the day after the payment was due. Of course, I incurred interest and a £12 late payment fine.

I rang Sainsburys to explain and they told me that I would not be charged the £12 - but so far there is no sign of that and I ended up paying it. Another call to Sainsburys resulted in them telling me that the £12 will come off my February statement.

Anyhow, this morning, January 26th, my January staement arrived - again, one day after the due payment date of January 25th. The £12 late fee was on it but, thankfully, I had paid it online at the start of the month.

Apart from waiting to see whether I get my £12 back I am concerned that, for 2 months in a row, my Sainsburys' statement is 'conveniently' arriving the day after the payment date.

Is anyone else getting this? Any thoughts on this?

Btw, I now rely on my online account and check that rather than wait for the statements but it will be interesting to see how many others get this.

I've only once had a problem with my Sainsburys card when the statement didn't arrive at all and that was back in the days where I didn't have it covered by a direct debit. they did refund the charge but said that it was my responsibility to ensure the payment was made.

If its been happening repeatedly then there obviously something wrong in their system. I'd get them to check when the statements are being generated in relation to the payment date.
  • Surely the January statements payment date should be 15-20th Feb, with the December Statement being same time in January giving you up to 56 days payment free. You usually get about 3 weeks to pay so something ain't right.
  • You could set up a direct debit for the minimum payment to avoid this happening in future

No, the latest statement which arrived this morning is dated 4th January and the payment had to reach them by the 25th which is yesterday. As I say, once bitten last month I went ahead and paid it online without waiting but there is, as you say, something obviously wrong with their system.

Even the post office cannot take this long to send a letter.
