Hi thanks for reading
My fiancee and I are getting married in September this year. He is currently on tour
We live in a privately rented 3 bed (lovely!!) house. However, we have been thinking about whether to move into married quarters but we know nothing about it.
Im more concerned about leaving the area and family, also there are great schools where we are for our 3 yr old. I am also pregnant with no.2!!
Any advise on whether you like it/how much it is/pros and cons please pleased let me know!
thanks

we have a three bed (large) quarter and we pay around £270 a month for rent, water and Council tax contributions. I love living in married quarters, wouldnt have it any other way. Leaving my family was a wrench, but you work round that and theres always visits home! I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons of him being unaccompnied against the pros and cons of living together!
have you any idea where he will be posted when you are married?0 -
If you do know where he's likely to be posted you can ask for help on either of these sites
http://www.rearparty.co.uk
http://www.forcesgirls.co.uk
Generally there'll be someone on either who can advise about the state of the quarters, and things like local amenities and schools for the lo's.It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

We are in MQ and it's great. House is lovely and it's good to be around people who are experiencing same things as yourself such as husband going away or excitement of him coming back! I have made lots of friends and we all help out each other as much as possible as we are all in the same sort of situation. In addition we have a HIVE and a community centre staffed with people who give great advice about stuff regarding forces life.
Lots of mother and baby groups and it's a good way to meet people and get out and about. Think ours costs about £300 pcm. Don't know exact figure but it comes out of wages before we get paid so feels like we are living here for free in my mad brain way!
You need to know where you will be posted as I have heard some MQ's are grotty.True MSE'r -Money Spending Expert0 -
Wow £300 a month sounds better than our £800 for rent alone!
He is based in Tidworth when he is in UK, but think he will be moved to Bordon which isnt far really.
Both places are about an hour from where we live, he commutes every day when we are here.
How would i get hold of OC? I have never been part of the army thing!!
Thanks again

Bordon is ok, its like any other posting its what you make of it! Bordon itself is a bit limited but its got everything you need on a day to day basis and its wel located for other places like reading, portsmouth etc or even london. Theres plenty goes on on camp coffee mornings, play groups and so on we have a really good CDW (community development worker) who organises a lot and is open to suggestions about what we would like to see put on.
Blackpool saver yes you het your repairs done for you,MHS has a bit of a rep for taking ages butive had no problems with them.0 -
I grew up in married quarters, some nice, some not so nice. As a kid, it was great being surrounded by other Forces kids (many of whom you would lose contact with for a year or two but then bump into each other again on the next posting) and you were usually all at the same school, but I think my mum hated it tbh, bit like living in a goldfish bowl, everyone knowing each other's business. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

We lived in a married quarter fro a limited time, no complaints about the quarter itself. However, I personally found living on a MQ estate a bit like living in a 'gold fish bowl'.
It is a good idea to move about with your partner, however I would encourage you to think about the benefits of having family support, especially if he often goes on tour. Also, look at the inspection reports for the local school.
Living in a MQ, with the realtively cheap rates of rent, may help financially if you are having baby no.2.
Like everything else, you won't know unless you try it. Good luck with whatever you decide.:)0
