  • I feel quite fortunate to have had a pay rise in 2009. It was 6.25%. We've not had a Christmas Bonus for the past 2 years, but a bonus is a bonus and not to be relied upon.

Work in manufacturing. Had to take an 8% pay cut in 2009 for a "reduction in hours". Now back to 2008 levels

  • I work for a large law firm and we have not had a pay rise for 4 years, times are grim, I cannot see any pay rise on the horizon this year, but the bills keep going up, to claim we are out of recession is rubbish!

I ticked 'payrise' but it was funded by overtime going from +10% pay to flat rate and OT limit being reduced from 17hrs a week to 10hrs, kence more agency coming in cheaper.

    Poll Started 26 January 2010:

Did you get a pay rise or cut in 2009?

I got an increase in salary, but it wasn’t always paid on time. The bank took away credit - the reason for difficulty - and it was a harsh year to survive. [Bobbing and weaving like Felix the Cat from debtors and cutting back on suppliers - e.g. cleaning office ourselves, doing other’s work.] Now we have survived it and are back to an equilibrium, but the fear is still there. I am better off because of being in work and lots of things going cheaper, such as mortgages. Yet I know many people much strickened by the downturn and know it is just random who gets affected.

The upturn will be slow because those who have money will be cautious and not spend it. Another slide and all the shaky confidence will disappear.

  • We've not had a pay rise for 3 years, and the promised bonus never came either. Despite the company making $118 billion last year and similar amounts subsiquent years.
All going to the board and shareholders, not the workers who actually make the money for them.
