Anyone here use cleaning or ironing services?

I used cleaners around the time my daughter was born, as it was in such a state! I told them to send me their very best cleaners - Kim & Aggie types - who would be physically robust and not afraid of washing doors, skirtings, etc.
For a spring clean it was £7.50/hr, though if it was an ongoing thing it was £6.50/hr.
They did a cracking job. However, they really p'd me off because they a) threw cigarette butts on the ground outside my house, b) broke a crystal bowl of sentimental value and c) I discovered they'd been inhaling air freshener spray. Didn't tackle them about the last one, but told them I had asthma and sprays made me wheezy and I bought wipes for everything and banned sprays from thereon in!
So haven't used anyone since, but pregnant again and house starting to look like a tip. Got a leaflet in through the door recently, and it says something on it about no problem if you want to change your cleaner. I think the rate quoted on it was £8.50-12.15/hr.
I think if you can afford it, go for it. I can't, though I might pay for a spring clean for now and dream about the day when I can pay someone to come in every week.0 -
I am often tempted by an ironing service, I hate ironing! Cleaning is not too problematic as only me and OH so we don't mess or dirty the place TOO much. However, if I had children I think I would have a cleaner to save me time (and save my sanity)... and would probably pay someone to do the ironing too!! Friends who have kids say that they often have the WM on every single day... is this true???Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

My flatmate wants to make use of the ironing service, the leaflet for which dropped through our door the other night. If they do I'll post their views on quality etc.
Would be interested to hear what others thought of the services they used.0 -

Believe me, being good at cleaning - or even liking it - is not imprinted in women's genetic code.
I hate it with a passion, such a waste of time. As soon as I get into employment I'll create work and hire a cleaner so that I don't have to.
My ironing is done by stealth....I fold things up as soon as they are dry and put them at the bottom of the pile. I also ensure things are dried on hangers, therefore don't need ironing. I buy very little that will need to be ironed.

For not much more than the earlier poster is paying to have 18 shirts ironed, I get my house cleaned and all my ironing done,I'm lucky to have a wonderful woman who helps me with both cleaning and ironing. She does all of the family ironng (me , DH and DD which includes all his work shirts and bedclothes etc and cleans our house throughout). we pay for 4 hours per week and I can't recommend it highly enough. It took me a long time to be ok with the idea of getting someone to help - now I'd sell my soul before letting her go.0

I'm really thinking of getting a cleaner but am unsure of costs, I never get flyers or anything locally.
To be honest it's for purely selfish reasons. I want to get fit & get rid of all this excess fat, and I would like to commit to the gym/class/big walk/running or something active Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday mornings. My DD has lessons on a thursday, my other half has his rugby on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday afternoons. I would like either myself or my OH to be with the kids, no babysitters. Realistically you see there is very little family time, and I can't decide to either sacrifice my time to cleaning and general domestic carp therefore no time at the weekends, or to sacrafice my health, looks and self esteem and enjoy the weekends with the kids.
I'm interested to see how anyone else makes this balance
I think you've pretty much answered your own question here Cathyyou need a cleaner. What area are you in, just in case someone can offer advice?
Don't think I'd ever need an ongoing cleaner but someone to come in once a month and give the place a good bottoming would be a blessing. EG window washing, deep clean in bathrooms and kitchen, floor washing etc. I can keep up with the day to day stuff fine, it's the longer term things that I find hard to get to. Half a day once a month would make a big difference to me I think/
Would be really interested if people can recommend particular companies for this...0 -
My friend is starting up as a cleaner, if anyone is interested drop me a PM and I'll find out about rates etc. She's the most trustworthy person I know, not like me, I'd be in your cupboards eating all your chocolate :PThe stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0
