Best place for reasonable theatre tickets for weekend shows

Options
Morning to you all,

My husband and I used to go to London a lot and see show's, not so easy logistically or financially now we have a baby!

We used to buy tickets from the theatre directly or through last minute.com but I am wondering if there is a cheaper option.

We actually don't mind what we see, we're quite flexible in that respect, however as husband is a teaching assistant, we're restricted to weekends or school hols, which is probably going to mean that tickets aren't going to be that cheap.

Can anyone recommend a reliable agency or method of saving some money on tickets that you can buy in advance?

Thanks
Jo

i often use the following 2 sites

    www.broadwaybox.com/london

www.theboxoffice.com (see tickets agency discount arm)

also www.whatsonstage.com sometimes has show discounts also.

if you are open about what you see and want to chance it you can get on the day tickets from the TKTS booth in leicester square (www.officiallondontheatre.com/tkts) or many theatres do day tickets or ticket lotterys where they are held back until the day.

Also try some of the small theatres or play houses, for example the donmar warehouse does good value theatre tickets and is a brilliant venue for the shows, and for who they have in the plays, they charge less than some other west end plays.

  • Thank you for that, I shall have a peek shortly.

I'm not against the ticket booths but was a bit scared of using them for some reason, I think I remember someone telling me when they used one in 1986 they had a forged ticket and that sparked my wariness of them.

The TKTS booth is on the grass at the square itself, thats 100% genuine as it is ran but the society of london theatre. Cant comment on the ticket offices around the sides of the square, but the TKTS one is fine. The theatres hand over what availablilty they have for that days, they are not an agent itself

  • try getintolondontheatre.com at the moment - this is run but the Official London Ticket bureau TKTS who run the booth in leicester square, if you book before 12/2 tix up to 26th March are generally £25 or £35 each. Not really Saturday nights but most of the shows doing Fridays. Great site only opens December-Feb but extended this year Good luck
  • For current special offers look at: http://www.theatremonkey.com/CURRENTSPECIALOFFERS.htm

Also some shows do 'Day Seats' These are seats that are released on the day of the performance usually at 10am direct from the theatre. I think currently Wicked, Billy Elliott, Sister Act and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof all do day seats.

Legally Blonde also has a lottery system whereby you can get tickets for £25 but need to be at the theatre at 5pm to get a ticket.
