British Gas Deposit

Hi,

I had to pay a deposit to british gas [change key meter] £250 about a year ago. Now wish to get deposit back.

Not rang them yet as I was trying to find out there policy on deposits for supply.

Has anyone got there deposit back and if so how?

If I have trouble getting the money was thinking about cancelling direct debit......

You are entitled to it back after twelve months, with interest. If you jeopardise your reputation by doing something idiotic (like spontaneously cancelling your direct debit) take a wild guess as to what will happen.

Ring them or write to them to enquire as to when the deposit is due to be returned. (Of course this is if you have paid enough through your debits - if your account is not sufficiently in credit then they may well just credit it to your account. Double check your current meter readings and your balance first.)

I am in credit and bills are up to date, paid deposit on the 19th Feb 2009 by credit card. So have not got long to wait.

No I will no cancel debit, was my last resort...

Will ring them first see what happens

Rang British Gas and was told that the deposit will be refunded on the 19th Feb automatically ..... so will wait and see
