New motherboard?

Options
Hi
My sons acer laptop was 3 months old when he switched it on and got nothing - as it was still under waranty it was sent away to the tec guys (It had been bought online from dixons). The very nice people sent it back and said that it needed a new mother board and it had been replaced free of charge.
Everything was fine and dandy - until 11months have now gone by since the new motherboard and same thing has happened again - switch it on and it just keeps trying to boot up but switching itself off cos it cant (if you know what I mean)
It is now out of its waranty - does anyone know how much (ballpark figure) it would cost to get this repaired?
Thankyou in advance - you oh so helpful people - I love this website - when things go wrong there is always someone here to give some advice :money::j:j:T

Speak to the tech guys and find out if the repair was guaranteed as on a cheap laptop it would be cheaper to buy a replacement then to get one repaired unless you know someone in the business.
  • I'd like clarification of "switching itself off cos it cant"
Is the machine literally turning itself off, power light out etc... Or, is it blue/black screening and hanging?
When you turn on the power does the logo/bios page load up at all?

    ..and I'm guessing vista?

listen for beeps. They can help to define what is the matter by how long and how many for example 2 longs and a short . If it gets to the bios but cant get further it might be the memory chip is loose and just needs pushing in.
If it says no os found, then it cant see the harddrive to access the operating system.
