Tax rebate cheque help..

Sent my tax rebate cheque through the post to the RBS over two weeks ago, phoned them up today they haven't received it. Will HMRC just give me another cheque if I phone them and explain the situation?
Also where do I stand in regards to Royal Mail, can I hold them responsible? seeing as it was via a first class stamp and wasn't received.

the first class stamp makes NO difference,it should have been sent recorded delivery if you or a friend couldnt get it to a branch.Whilst they will eventually re-issue a new cheque be prepared for a delay while they make enquiries.0

There may well be a waiting period whilst they check that the first cheque hasn't been cashed.
When sending important items through the post, it's a good idea to send them by registered post.0 -
But surely they will immedately see it hasn't been cashed yet? Can I not hold Royal Mail responsible?0

why can you hold RM responsible?how were they to know what was in the envelope?
They will have to check their systems to make sure that no one has cashed the cheque, when they are happy thats the case they will re-issue it,then I suggest you take it personally to the bank and pay it in.0
