Missed Appointment Compensation

Hey,

I have had a persistent problem with a pair of sofas that I bought a few years ago. I called up the retailer and asked for them to be repaired. They then forwarded me to the manufacturers, and I arranged an appointment for them to come and inspect the sofas.

The appointment was for them to come between 12 and 6, on Monday 25th January. I had to take a day's holiday off work for the appointment, although they never turned up. They didn't even call to say they couldn't make it that day.

Legally, where do I stand in asking for compensation, as I've effectively lost about £50 in wages.

I know that if I missed an appointment with a hairdressers, for example, then the hairdressers can charge compensation for loss of earnings, but I'm unsure whether this works round the other way.

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

your contract is with the retailer and not the manufacturer, you need to take this poor customer service up with them
    Always ask ACAS

I am currently in dispute with my landlord (a Housing Association). They missed five appointments and only offered £10 per appointment so I suspect that legally you haven't got a leg to stand on.

I tried this before with a company, and failed to get anywhere.

I always pay extra for Saturday delivery now, as they they HAVE to deliver it on a saturday!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Yeah, but it's not a delivery.
  • Thanks guys.

I just wondered, as I knew if you missed an appointment with a restaurant, then they can claim compensation, but I didn't know if it worked the other way round. I assumed so, but obviously not! :(

In theory you could claim for your losses incurred but it will be a tough thing to pursue.

if your day off work was a paid holiday I doubt you could ask to be compensated when you havn't really lost any money...
