Florida Disneyland holiday - Advice

Hi,

Ideally am hoping for some advice from anyone who has visited Orlando Disneyland for a holiday. Any advice is welcome.
I have a one 7 year old child, my wife and I are thinking about saving some cash up and taking her on holiday to Orlando to visit Disneyland. I have looked online at some deals and the online ones (not through a travel agent) seem to be a little more expensive than the ones through a travel agent, which is unexpected.
My main dilemma is should we stay on the resort or not? We could stay just outside the resort and go to Disneyland on the days we want.
At the moment I would assume that staying in the resort things like drinks and snacks will be very expensive, maybe staying outside the Disneyland resort would be better and we would have more options and choice where to eat etc...

Am really not sure of all of the pros and cons therefore thought id ask to see if anyone has any expereince on this and get your thoughts.

Any feedback is much appreciated! Thanks in advanced for reading/responding.

Cheers

This website is dedicated to holidays at Walt Disney World (WDW) in Florida. There's loads of info and a very good forum of members who go to WDW every year and are experts on the subject. http://www.thedibb.co.uk/

It's a very friendly site, so don't worry about asking "silly" questions.

If its any help we go every year. We normally stay in a villa outside of disney which works out cheaper for us as we go as a party. The only thing i say if you are staying on site you are a bit restricted unless you hire a car. Disney are doing special offers at the moment were if you stay at one of there resort hotels and they throw in park tickets and food etc. (may work out cheaper depending when you want to go)

If you do decide to stay out of disney what we tend to do is take lunch with us. Go to somewhere like walmart or publix and get some cobs etc and make your own lunch up for the day. We bought a small cool bag before we went and then just got some freezer blocks which were less than a pound and froze them up so that our sandwichs stayed cooled till lunch time. Meals have gone up in disney so be expecting to pay at least $10 dollars a person which if you are there all day and are a family of four you could be spending over £50 just on junk food etc - which soon mounts up if you go to all the parks at least once.

If you want anymore advice then just pm. I can tell you where the best place to get park tickets from etc and hopefully save you some money.

Have a wonderful time - Your daughter will love it. My kids certainly do.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi,We've been twice to Orlando. The first time we stayed in a hotel on I Drive but I was worried that we would have problems getting on the rides and so booked 3 nights in a Disney hotel to gain the extra magic hours.Found the drive to the parks and parking very easy, and I didn't need to worry about getting on the rides using the fast passes meant we did everything that we wanted. The 3 nights in a disney hotel, at first it was exciting but by the end of the three days we were looking forward to going to a nice restaurant and not having to pay Disney prices and felt we were 'all Disneyed out'.The second time we stayed in a villa which was much better, we were packing sandwiches and freezing drinks(used to keep lunch cool and then drink when melted) and supplementing our lunches with chips in the parks. Also found that after a busy day in the parks its nice to have a take away, hot bath and chill in front of the TV.If you restrict yourself to staying at Disney you will be missing out on the rest of Orlando.Sea World and Universal are excellent as well.
Have a great time, it really is magic, for parents as well as kids.
