I've managed my life very poorly so far and am in my late twenties, I think thats the main reason I can't do all those things, well just about any of them actually. My current salary is 26k

That was kind of random wasn't it... the reason this came about is I was reading awaken the giant within yesterday and as part of the goal setting session I had to set 'contribution goals' and mine was to help someone get a job on MSE ! although I set myself a year target to do it so a way off yet I guess!

ok you want to help me then, im applying for a job in a school as an it techy and 1 of the person specs is "ability to deal with confidential information and an understanding of data protection legislation" but the thing is ive not been in a position where ive had some information about someone eg address etc as ive not had a job that requires me to deal with data like tht, i do have people telling me stuff that ive been asked to keep quiet from they're sibling. I understand what its asking but how do i explain it on the form
  • Yes I have very little discipline with money - I like going to clubs etc and I really need to try to develop some discipline though. That was the reason I joined MSE back over a year ago - but just never seem to manage to grow up really - which is really annoying as I'm wasting opportunity I think atm

have you sorted yourself out with a spreadsheet of ins and outs so you can see how much is going out and where you can cut back
  • How about something like this: -

I am aware of the data protection act and am used to working with sensitive information. I always ensure the correct controls are in place to ensure the data in question reaches only those it is intended for, by for example labeling the data clearly as confidential where appropriate. Printed data I of course keep securely locked when not in use. My dilligent and intelligent approach to my work is reflected in the way I handle data. Handling sensitive data would pose no problem at all for me were I successful with this application.

Thats a good idea thanks I'll do that. I get paid this week - so need to be careful this is my most vulnerable time for being wasteful.

You haven't said where you was dealing with sensitive data just that you can deal with sensitive data. These type of questions are more of an iq test in my opinion. You have already said that you keep information 'secret' that you're told that you are meant to keep secret, that about all that's saying really. It's common sense that you'd lock information away that was sensitive if it was on your table in a classroom? And no one expects you to recite the DPA you've just said you're aware of it. I.e. I know this exists.

You need to sell yourself. It's just a matter of perception really!
