Remington Hair Straighteners

Hi everyone,
thought I should seek some advice.
About 3 months ago I bought some Remington Hair Straighteners, Today I came home to find that they had burnt their 'heat proof' mat, the rubber casing on the product, scorch mark on my bed sheet, and memory foam mattress. They were switched off, but boiling hot to the touch. I knew I'd not left them on, but even if I had, they have a function that turns them off after an hour. I returned home after 10 hours to find them as above. So lucky not to have burnt the house down,
I contacted the place where I got them from, and they said that they could only replace the product and to dispose of the original.
When I mentioned the damage to bed etc, they just said they'd add a file note.
Where do I stand and what should I do next...the cost the remington product is enough, but compared to that of the cost of my year old bed is nothing!!
Any comments appreciated!

As I understand, the retailer has no liability for consequential loss.
In any case, you'd probably find that the manual for the straightners advises you to unplug them when not in use (which I assume you didn't...unless they are magic!), and you'd have no recourse at all.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I think you would find that the retailer/manufacturer would argue that they shouldn't have been left on your bed even on the heatproof mat. After watching a watchdog program on TV a few years ago about ghd's burning stuff even though switched off, I now always unplug mine at the wall after use.0

Well, they were plugged in, however, when I got home and unplugged them immediately when I saw what was happening + they were making a strange buzzing noise, they were still boiling hot an hour later! Not your normal cooling period!Really want to move out! Moving out - fund £00

I don't think anyone will deny they've malfunctioned. But you'll probably find that the instructions are not to leave them plugged in, just in case they do malfunctionSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you.
