job offer and jsa

Hi everyone,
OH has been on JSA (contributions based) since the 3rd December. He's been offered a job :j but is still awaiting written confirmation. He has had to do a crb for this job which the company have paid for, and he has been told by the MD that as he has got to this stage there's nothing more for him to worry about and he has definately got the job and will get a confirmation letter in the post - this was over a week ago now.
I've emailed them today about it because since then he's got another 2 interviews to go to - one this week and one next week (talk about them all coming together!). I've asked when he's likely to receive his letter because he's on JSA he's still expected to apply for jobs and attend interviews as per his job seekers agreement. Plus as we all know until it's confirmed and start date given there's no guarantees of the job.
My question is what happens when he does get the offer letter? When does he tell the Job Centre and will he still have to apply for jobs until his start date once he's told them? I only ask because I don't want to think he is stopping someone else getting a job for the sake of him keep applying for them when he is just waiting to start his.
Thanks all for any advice

If he starts on a Monday, he could tell the JC whenever his usual sign-on session is, and hand in the booklet then. If your local JC has a phone number dedicated to signing-off, use that instead, as it's quicker (you can call anytime before the start date of work).
Meanwhile, still look for jobs (but don't have to apply for anything though. just say that there aren't any), until he receives a start date.0 -
I would have thought it best to attend any interviews until he gets the offer in writing, you never know he might end up with a choice of jobs, then when he gets a start date inform the JC+0

Sorry but you did say your OH has been offered a job....so why are YOU emailing the employer? Is he a kid? If I were the employer I would be pulling the job offer if any of my prospective employee's OH's were contacting me.
I would still attend the interviews that have been arranged he might get a better offer and he can use them against each other. To be unemployed for only 7 weeks at this time of year and with poor economy is great so get more offers of work and use them to earn more.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Don't tell DWP anything until he has actually started.
An offer letter isn't worth the paper it's printed on - they can withdraw an offer at any time. Wait until he starts and then let the DWP know. Don't give them any more information than they need, when they need it - they don't exactly have the brightest matches in the box working there."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Sorry, meant to say that I'd emailed on his behalf - he asked me to email them for him while I was using the pc0 -
thanks everyone for some great advice. He's still been applying for jobs - hence the interviews because as you say until his start date the job technically isn't there and can be withdrawn at any time.
the compnay have took on about 8 people and told him they hoped the start date would be the beginning of Feb but as he's had nothing it's better not to put all your eggs in one basket so to speak0 -
Is it possible they are waiting for the CRB to come back before confirming the job.0
