friend has a vw polo which is a few years old. its the model with four round lamps at the front. she just had a baby. at present the baby's child seat is in the back. is there a way to switch off the passenger air bag so she can have the seat at front?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Maybe. I had an Audi A4 and the Audi garage were able to change the wiring for me so that the airbag was disabled. Think it cost about £40. Its likely that as many VW / Audi parts are the same then it will be the same case, however some garages are reluctant to disable air bags in case either the airbag does still deploy, or an adult is in the seat and it dosent go off. In either case you could have a case to sue the garage hence the reluctance.

I think there should be. It will tell you in the book. Anyway assuming that you have the option to manually do this, try looking in the glove compartment to right hand side. There should be a slot for your key to turn it on/off. However, if you can't see it, it could mean that there isn't one and you may have to go to a dealer to ask them, but it's gonna cost you!!! I would suggest your friend keeps the baby in the back as I'm sure it would be safer there than in the front, unless it's a 3 door and it will be easier to put in the front than in the back, I would still say put the child seat in the back as it should be safer there in case of a head on collision or even still the airbag might just deploy even after "turning off". :)

Yes ! Tell your friend to keep the baby and seat in the back.
Its much safer ! The air bag is still liable to deploy in an accident.
