How to cancell BT PHONE contact ?

Hello,

Hope there is someone out there who can help :)

I have been with BT for 12 months now and just had my phone bill. they are telling be that my new direct debit is £46, it used to be £28 which is quite a big increase. My Call plan is £15.78 and the interent is £15.99, which is £28.78. I am fed up with BT and cant understand how by bill has gone up so much.

I phoned BT today to try and Cancell my service off them, but they told me it would cost me £158. Now i am . I could understand paying the £45 to cancell the internet, because i took out an 18 month contact. but don't understand how they want me to pay £88 to cancell my phone line. Plus the other charges !!

Would i really have to pay these charges of £158 to leave ?????

yes if you are in the middle of a contract , was the previous rate a promotion? is the increase just a one off from them changing their billing method from arrears to advance?
  • The percious rate was not a promotion. I don't know about the arrears to advance, i have just paid by direct debit from the start.

I wish i never signed up to BT, are the other supplier just as bad ?

I don't know how the other suppliers are, my BB is with Virgin and I'm happy with them for that, only problem is when you contact them by phone, you can be on hold a long long long time, you hear/read horror stories of other providers.
I don't know if I will bother with a fixed line now, I rarely used it anyway,so I see it as a £15 month saving as I never use up my mobile minutes in a month :o
  • Telephone BT on 150 and ask them to switch you to WHOLE BILL MONTHLY DIRECT DEBIT. This will kick in when your next bill is due, and if you have overpaid on your monthly payment plan, any overpayment will be credited back. Make sure you have paperless billing.

You are tied in for another 6 months, but there is some self help! Don't call mobiles using BT. Sign up for https://www.18185.co.uk, and use this service for your mobile calls. Completely avoid dialling 0844 and 0871 numbers. Use https://www.saynoto0870.com to find alternatives. (0870 and 0845 numbers are ok.)
