Can anyone suggest a spyware programme other than Windows Defender that works with AVG 9 or should I change the anti virus....
I don't want to use spybot again as it caused so many conflicts a couple of years ago...
Thanks

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html , but I would use it in conjunction with SpyBot and Defender
If it's not working for you, then change it - to Avast0 -

Thanks, will look into Avast as AVG have said that Windows defender was switched off when we upgraded to AVG 9 and it doesn't seem to be compatible anymore....0 -

Apparently not, there is a few issues on the AVG forums....I only found out when my hotmail account had problems last week that I found out by accident that it had been switched off...

I had Avira (free version) installed but found the pop up message on start up was driving me nuts - it also seemed to slow things down somewhat. So I did some research and found some very good feedback on Microsoft Essentials. Have downloaded this freebie and it seems great. By the way, Microsoft Essentials cancels out Defender as its unnecessary to have both working together.Tact: getting your point across without stabbing someone0

Surprised you thought the free Avira slowed things down?
It's one of the least resource hungry AVs out there.
The splash screen on start up I don't find a problem. its only there for a second there is of course the nag screen when updating offering the premium version but one click and its gone.0 -
Hi
Elsewhere on this site I found a link to instructions to stop the Avira nag screen. It worked for me

Just to clarify, MSE switches off Defender because MSE includes the functionality of Defender. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I think it is very much a personal choice both Avira & MSE are good free AV products.
There is a comparison test for both at the link below from last year, Avira comes out slightly ahead on that test but it may be the other way round now so have a look at current info.
