Dotted lines on Matsui 14" CRT TV

When I switch on, a single line of dots and dashes appears and goes half way across the screen about 2" from the top. This gradually moves up and sometimes disappears for a while then comes back. Sometimes there are two lines about an inch apart. Also, when a full screen programme is being shown I can also see about 6 fine lines at the top as well.
Does anyone know what this might be and if it's worth repairing or should I bin it and go for a new one?
TIA

Those lines are present in all television transmissions. They are data lines for teletext and other required systems. The remedy is a simple fix, but the problem you have now is that most CRT sets are virtually worthless these days, portables in particular. You could probably pick up a free replacement in good order from freecycle.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Thanks, might ditch in then.
I have a 20" samsung which I could use but it's quite bulky and limited space. It's a tossup between rearranging the bedroom to accomodate it or go for a new LCD. I prefer CRTs though, much better picture quality.0 -
So you're getting a better picture quality on a 14" Matsui than even a cheap LCD?
Unless you're doing some serious video work (unlikey on a 14" screen!) then you should definitely replace this with an LCD, they're not inferior these days.0 -

I have a 32" Sony LCD in the lounge and the picture is not as sharp, crisp and clean as a CRT. However, it is a bottom of the range model with a 1366 x 768 panel so I suppose it won't compare as well as a full HD screen.
Football matches look dreadful sometimes with blockyness and a sparkly sort of aura/outline around the players, etc. Studio transmissions look much better though. I suppose it depends on the quality of the compression delivered by the TV company.0
