Problems downloading itunes for iphone

hi guys i've got someone who has just had an iphone and is having mega problems downloading itunes to his pc. its running on windows 7 if thats any help. When i'm downloading it for him and i then try to open it up its saying that some componants are missing and it cannot run without them...error 2???????
i've spent nearly all day tryimg to install, uninstall system restore etc (advice of orange) the wierd thing is i can download it no problem and sync his phone up to mu daughters pc which is windows xp.
