any comments on Quinn Direct home insurance ?

home insurance due again .

started going through the routine .. checking Quidco & Tcb and using a couple of comparison sites.....

Similar to last year .. a number at around £225 ....

but Swinton at £195 and £30 quidco
( went with them last year at £210 - £30)

BUT ... best quote ...

QUINN DIRECT at £142 . (no cashback deals)

Went on their website and entered all detail .. came out at £144.

Looked at all the excesses etc .. everything looks comparable . Also includes legal and Acc damage .

Sounds ridiculously cheap !!

If it sounds too good to be true .... but is it ?

I've not read the Quinn Home Policy and knowing what their motor policy is I thought I give it a quick read, here are some of the more unusual sectiosn I have found.

First of all the excess is £250 and it appears to be that you pay it twice if you claim under Building and Contents for instance a fire or burgalary.

    Escape of Water Section

damage to walls, ceilings or tiles caused by water
leaking from shower units and baths through seals and
    grouting

(Thats a fairly common cause of damage to ceilings and walls)

Contents and All Risk Section has this exclusion

    Exclusions to 1, 2, 3 and 4 above
    We will not cover:
    a damage caused by misuse

A Wii controller hitting the tv when you have not put the strap on would (Knowing) Quinn be excluded under this.

Contents Accidental Damage Section the following are excluded

damage to clothing, contact lenses, stamps, hearing aids,
plants, food or drink, money or pedal cycles

    Contents Accidental Damage Cover

floor coverings over five years old, household linen (towels,
bed and table linen) and clothing, we take off an amount for
    wear and tear

All Risks excludes Mobile Phones and Hearing Aids (You would be amazed how many loss of hearing aid claims I have dealt with and they range between £1000 and £6000 per hearing aid (Average probably £2000)

motor vehicles, boats, aircraft, camping equipment,
caravans, trailers and accessories, pets, livestock, mobile
phones and accessories, money, contact lenses or hearing
    aids

    Personal Liability

Does not cover you when your using your pedal cycle

Quinn's Commercial Property cover is on an Indemnity basis, NOT reinstatement. The household policy may be different but it would be sensible to check.

    cant help but agree...
  • ended up going with Swinton ... as then discovered not only is there the £30 quidco but Swinton are still doing their own £30 cashback . .. so ending up at about £125 nett ! .

Remember the days when the house was worth less than a third of todays value .. and my insurance was on the back of my mortgage .. at over £400 a year !!

They tend to quote MMA as they are are very cheap and MMA own Swintons, MMA are in my opinion slightly better than Quinn
