Hiya wow thanks so many replies all very helpful and apprecaited,
my son gets dla middle rate , he fully diagnosed asd and adhd now , also has emotional difficulties doesnt understand angry and sad and gets feelings mixed up.
he is doing great in school and they have had no problems, in junior school he was always in trouble and being put in the nursery as teacher couldnt cope with him ( think had a lot to do with the being bullied but school said no) , but since moved to high school he doing great, they know he has problems but while his meds work they are 8 hrly you dont hear a peep out of him its when they wear off he gets a handful so school dont see that side often.
they understand he is vunrable though and he does have a leave early pass, dinner pass as he doesnt que up well and certain lessons he is not able to do as not got concentration.
he goes to an asd group within the school and has a teacher he can always go to if needed.
we dont have a problem with the school its just getting him there, i always thought catchment areas were scrapped as i know kids from futher away who go to our local high school ( one i wont put my son in)
thanks again and im going to look into all your suggestions

Does your son not get the mobility component?
There are 2 levels, Lower and Higher.
For my son, when he was 14, I had to go to tribunal to get his DLA.
For the mobility part, I was asked the question 'If he was in a strange town, would he be able to make his way home?'
Well....no.
He couldn't use a phone, and will avoid any sort of conversation. He has not sense of danger, and would be a danger to himself, pedestrians and road users. He can't even navigate places he knows extremely well.
It may well be worth you looking into the mobility part.

Well that's something to explore, because I didn't think you could exclude a child from part of the curriculum because of their special needs, I thought the school had to work out what could be done to enable ALL children to access ALL parts of the curriculum, and this might lead to a statement.and certain lessons he is not able to do as not got concentration.
However, whether it will lead to your DS's school being named on the statement is another matter, the LEA will probably argue that provision could be made in any school, including the one you don't want to send him to.Signature removed for peace of mind0
