Anyone experience of 'Student Associate Scheme'?

    That's rubbish, what a shame. Our SAS scheme was 3 weeks in June, after exams.

    If you're interested in the Student Associates Scheme but find that it clashes with Uni work, the other thing you could do is speak to your University's Widening Participation Office and see if they need any Student Ambassadors or Aimhigher Ambassadors/Associates (depending on what they call it there).

    Student Ambassadors basically help out on events, deliver group work and supervise the young people on outreach events and summer schools. Some go into schools and help with delivering Masterclasses, others also undertake mentoring. In many cases (particularly for week long summer schools), this will be paid work too.

    It's challenging though, as the majority of kids attending Aimhigher events will be disaffected or disengaged with education in some way. They might have come from backgrounds where going into HE is not the norm, they may have come from a PRU or they may have just fallen into difficulties at school. I can tell you from experience though, that helping these young people to make positive and informed life choices, is phenominally rewarding.
