Carers allowance???

My mum and dad both fit the category for someone to be able to claim carers allowance for them. They have tried twice and both times the recipiants have been told they are eligable to claim carers allowance but the money wont be paid because, the first claimant was on incapacity benefit which was more than the carers allowance, the second one had two much in savings. I dont understand this as they are still doing the job but hey thats the way it is so...........who can claim for carers allowance and actually get paid for it??? Im assuming that if you work and your wages are above the limit then that would rule you out also????? Are there any carers out there that actually get paid for caring???

It was once explained to me by someone employed to give benefit advice that often both parties can claim for the other. I thought this was bizarre and asked what would happen if say Mrs had Dementia and Mr was unable to walk. It was explained to me that in this instance both could claim the carers allowance and it was up to them how they used their money.
Why can't your parents folow this rulle?
Good luck0 -
CA is not affected by any savings you have.
If you work you cannot earn more than £95 pw.

Hello
Carer's allowance is not means tested for capital/savings, so that person was advised incorrectly.
You have to be caring for 35 hours minimum for one person, (you cannot count 2 people at 20 hours each for example), and have earnings of less than £95.00 per week after deductions to get carer's allowance.
If you get any other 'earnings replacement' money e.g. incapacity benefit, pension etc. then you will not get paid in money, but would have an underlying entitlement which may improve other benefits etc,0 -
What ages are your parent? It might be beneficial for them to claim CA for each other as someone else suggested.0

I may have got it wrong then perhaps it wasnt because of savings. My parents cant get any money for each other because their pension is higher than the Carers allowance0

Susi although they may not benefit from actually receiving any money for CA they would have an underlying entitlement to CA which could in essense give them an entitlement to PC, HB, CTB, etc. Do you know if they currently receive any of these benefits?0
