barclaycard and auctionworld

>:(I wonder if anyone is in the same situation as myself.
In October I purchased a diamond ring from auctionworld (this company is now in liquidation and owes many people goods and refunds). Payment for £293 was made by Barclaycard visa. Subsequently the ring was received and under the terms of Auctionworlds money refund policy I returned the ring - with proof of documentation - asking for a refund. This refund was never received by myself. The ring was taken to a jeweller by myself and because of the extremely large ring size it could not be altered to fit my finger without damaging the shoulders.
Not having received my refund from Auctionworld I made a claim to Barclaycard, and was verbally given to understand that this claim would be dealt with and a refund of monies refunded to myself. Subsequently I have received a letter from Barclaycard declining my claim on the grounds that I returned the goods 'purely because I didn't wish to keep them'.
I have subsequently advised Barclaycard the reason was the adjustment to size problem. On speaking to other people and looking at the 'discussion boards' it seems that the banks etc. have refunded people who have lost out to Auctionworld, and that Barclaycard are liable for this amount under Section 75 of the 1974 Consumer Credit Act, making them jointly and severally liable for goods. Can anyone advise me please if I am definitely legally entitled to claim from Barclaycard, and how to go about proceeding with this?

Doesn't sound particularly fair to me - especially if you returned it within 7 days? Surely they must be able to appreciate that mail order items may not be suitable & have to go back. Even if you had decided that you didn't like it - maybe because it looked different on TV - you have the right to return goods.
