Cleaning Trainers - Washing Machine?

My bf has a pair of New Balance trainers which he made ridiculously dirty the other day. I need to wash them, they say 'do not machine wash' on but if I put them in on a cold, gentle cycle with no spin then surely they'll be alright?
Help please
Any advice?

Dishwasher works better for me.0

I put them upside down (soul facing up), on the top rack and use an economy or bio programme with the usual dishwasher tablets.0

Why can't he clean his own wretched trainers? What did his last slave die of?

My Zanussi Jetsystem 1600 washer has a specific programme for "SPORTS SHOES". Just bang in the shoes on a 40 degree wash.
The water in the tub will only fill up to the "plimpsoll line".0 -
I just shove mine in the washing machine... the were quite expensive but have lasted 8 years so it can't do much harm... I just do it on a gentle washMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

I've never had a problem machine washing trainers on a cottons wash, even on a 1600 spin sometimes!:o
Try them on a woolens cycle, but at 40c if they're mostly white with biological soap powder/tablets - not gel or liquid.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0
