Our desktop has XP and outlook express and the new laptop is Windows 7 with live mail. I can send emails out from both but they mostly all come in to the desktop (with the occasional one coming in to the laptop and some coming in to both). Is it feasible to have all incoming to both machines and if so any suggestions how to do it would be welcome.

Hi,
i dont use either program (i use thunderbird) but there should be an option in the settings to set the client to leave the mail on the server. If you do that on one or the other then you should be able to get any mail from the server temporarily from that box(assuming the other has not already downloaded) . The box with the download still active will get permanent messages and store the locally(It will then delete the mail from the server)4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Exactly what debitcard rightly suggested:
- Open Outlook Express
- Select Tools/Accounts.
- Click on the Mail tab, highlight YourAccount and click on the Properties button.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- In the Delivery section, select the checkbox to Leave a copy of messages on server.
- Select the appropriate checkbox to delete the messages from the server after a certain number of days or until the messages are deleted from the Deleted Items in Outlook Express.

I've posted elsewhere here on how can I migrate from Outlook to Live. You mention Thunderbird above. Is it any good ? The one thing I must have is seperate folders for saved emails. A quick look at Thunderbird seems to imply it just archives old emails, otherwise they stay in Inbox, is this true ?0

Thunderbird has very many options for organising your inbox to include many folders within your main Inbox but also local folders and as many email accounts as you can usefully shake a stick at. It also has good message filtering ... i could go on but that would sound like i am a fan:D4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Re. Thunderbird, thanks for that.
Is the migration from Outlook to Thunderbird easy ? As I said previously I would need to be able to xfer numerous stored emails.0 -

Yes indeed, as debitcard rightly stated:
