Hope someone on here can give me some good advice about how l can repair my exterior house wall..
l live in a 3 bed house with the walls being stone/concrete throughout the house internal and external, with the external walls having a pebbledash like finish on the walls..
On one side of the house the exterior walls have in certain spots started to bubble/blister and crumble to take of the small pebble face and what looks crumbling cement under this with l presume the stone walls under this. So l need to take off the walls that are crumbling and repair.
What do l need to do to get a good repair on these walls'
What material will l need,
How do l get the small stone effect onto the repaired walls to blend in.

Make sure the brickwork is sound, p.v.a the area, mix 4:1 sand and cement with waterproofer.
Apply mortar to wall, make sure mortar is about half an inch below desired effect, leave it for a while then scratch the surface.
Allow a couple of days for mortar to set.
Dampen area with water then apply same ratio mortar mix, make sure you are below the pebble level.
Once the mortar is applied, cast the pebbles onto it.
Matching the existing finish 100%, is almost impossible, esp for a DIYer, just do the best you can. Is the wall painted white? Thatll hide a lot of sins.Get some gorm.0 -
i would remove the blistered areas and see if the area around it seems bad aswell. you'll have to gauge this while you do it.
the screeding may have come away or it may have not been scored properly so the dashing didnt stick to it very well. again, you'll just have to bite the bullet here.
you wont get a perfect match but it will weather down and look better as time goes by. i think unless you use a professional with experience on how much to mix up to match the surrounding walls, you'll just have to accept it is a DIY attempt and as good as you can do.
as for materials; i seem to remember you cannot use any old shingle as they contain impurities that will rust and turn the wall reddish.
definately a two man job - one mixing and making tea while the other sticks it up the wall.
hope this helps, been years since i've done any pebble dashing so if i think of anything else i will add.

yes i agree.
forgot to mention that if its any decent sized area at all, its certainly a two man job.Get some gorm.0 -
