Britons See House Prices Increasing This Year, Rightmove Says

so they didn't put together the survey and they just made it up, let's do the usual and claim that on my Property Bee asking prices (yes asking prices not selling prices) are dropping by 30% - where did they put that denial emoticon :TSir_Humphrey wrote: »Meaningless survey from a company with a long track record of PR spin.
it doesn't have much bearing if it's a cut and paste - it's in the media, people are actually feeling that property will increase in value. that's an upward trend that needs to be broken...Sir_Humphrey wrote: »A story as easy to write as cut and pasting a press release.0 -

Something can be both true and meaningless.
Re meaningfulness; what % increase do people expect? Above or below inflation?
RE Spin; it could be spun as "half of all people do not expect prices to rise". What % expect falls?
What actual question was asked? It is easy to frame questions to get the answer you want. So housing confidence is no longer at an all-time low. Big deal.
What % of people expected continued HPI at the start of 2007?

People can't deny that this is what the rightmove survey says.
However, it's worth bearing in mind that people actually involved in right move are:
- Estate agents
- Buyers
- Sellers
None of them want prices to fall from today as they all have an interest in prices rising.0 -

it indicates sentiment if anything - but.... now that it's in the mainstream media it generates momentum

It does help sentiment having this drivel...this is one of the drivers of bubbles. Robert Shiller of Yale University mentions this in his Irrational Exuberance book. However, without cold hard cash it will not change things on its own.
Unfortunately for them, without the mortgage deals for most FTBs to turn sentiment into transactions, they are urinating in the wind. We are still not in 2006. Positive sentiment at the start of 2007 did not prevent an HPC from eight months afterwards.

Makes me laugh that rightmove gets so slagged off when positive news is published, it is a totally different story when it was negative news.0

You mean asking prices falling, being consistent is not for all.:D
Of course we are talking about two different surveys here, which are issued by the same company.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0
