Insurance for Charity Walk

I'm organising a walk to help raise money for local boy suffering from cerebral palsy to go to America for an operation. I know the family and they are involved with this and I have their full support. I think I might need public liability insurance? A lot of people coming have got sponsorship. The walk doesn't involve any road walking because we are following public footpaths along the seafront and the route doesn't cross any roads. Any advice please?

  • I'd get in touch with Scope - the UK Cerebral Palsy charity. www.scope.org.uk

They would probably be best placed to help you with arrangements and may be able to help with things you haven't thought about such as advertising. If they endorse the walk, they may provide whatever insurance is necessary too.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

You could also ask a broker. I used to be Chairman of a charity and when we held a fundraising event I needed a one day policy to cover it for any liability we might incur. I had no idea where to turn but my local insurance broker did. There are insurers who specialise in charity cover.
