Ordering tyres (and fitting) online

Hi

I'm sure this will have been asked before!

I need some new tyres for my car and I've looked at some of those websites where you can order and pay online, then get the tyres fitted at a local garage.

My question is, if I just go to that same local garage and ask for those same tyres to be fitted, are they typically going to be the same price, of different, from the online quote?

Thanks

they will probably be more expensive, but possibly not by much.
call them and ask them if they can beat a price you got online, don't mention who incase they think its a test or setup by said online retailer if they are a garage they use, unless they ask who the online retailer is then tell them.
they will more than likely be able to beat it if they know you have been shopping around, especially if you've been online.

  • Thanks, I will try that.

Presumably they have to pay commission to the online retailer so they might actually be better off dealing with me directly, even at a slightly lower price.

Like everything get some quotes from fitters.

I have just bought on line as it's the only way I could guarantee to get what I actually wanted rather than what the fitter had in stock.

Online price £80 a tyre, fitting £7.50 a tyre. Quote from various fitters was around £100, one was £140 each!

I used online prices to get a good deal from my local main dealer. They got to within £5 a tyre on quite expensive tyres (£150ea) and I went with them for the convenience (the dealership is 2 minutes walk from my work).

It is always worth a try to get the fast fit centres to match an online price.

Be aware though that very often their "price promise" only applies to other garages within 3 miles and usually specifically states that they will not compete with internet sites.

However, the likes of Kwik Fit, ATS etc are struggling at the moment. Their managers are targeted and bonused and they usually will find a way of coming close - if not beating - the online price.

Incidentally, I have recently used Blackcircles.com and would recommend them if you still want an internet service. You pay them and have the tyres fitted at a local independant garage close to you.
