Removing gas boiler cover-is it safe ?

My Ideal Icos boiler (yes, I've been reading how poor they can be) is less than 3 years old and serviced last August, today started dripping water from the front cover, about a drip per two seconds. I've looked at the manual and the Ideal site and it mentions a guage, a pressure one I think. It's inside the cover and I'm worried I may invalidate the installation if I start having a nose round myself to see where the water is coming from and what the guage is reading.
Two weeks ago the condensate outlet got frozen and the boiler kept cutting out but we managd to sort that.
I'm planning to contact an RGI tomorrow . Is it OK to pull the cover off and should the system be shut down before trying ? Thanks.

Will answer your question , with a question .
If /when you get the cover off , what are you planning to do??
Stick a bowl . to catch the drips.water from the front cover, about a drip per two seconds0 -
it may simply be that the condensate trap is leaking?Get some gorm.0

If you have to ask leave it alone.0

I've got containers and newspaper down to catch the water overnight. I guess I'm intending to attempt to investigate the condensate trap as Ormus hints it could be leaking - is it OK for Mrs householder to take the cover off or am I asking for trouble ?0

I took the front cover off my baxi boiler a while ago as i wanted to check the colour of the flame, and it was just a matter of undoing a couple of screws at the bottom.0

if the 'condensate trap' is leaking , what's your next move ?
Nothing is going to be fixed by taking the cover off and looking at it!
( well your curiosity ):D0 -
you shouldnt be taking the cover off ..phone bg and get them to check it for you ..this boiler is one that could break down quite alot i would get it on contract with bg so it doesnt cost you as much ..
i have houses that i rent out and all my boilers are covered ..and i can mend them myself ..
like i say british gas would be the best way to go ..X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.
Please don,t let this put you off.0 -
If your are going to take the cover off , turn the electric off to the boiler first , that way you can reply and tell us whats leaking ;-)Arf :think:0
