- thanks for the advice I received on here.
No connection fee and 12 months free rental. 18 month contract. Everything arrived as promised, and today I set it up using their simple instructions. All working ok, and faster than I'm used to - YAY!
Next question....
I have an office about a hundred yards (? I'm not very good at judging distances) from the wireless router. I took my laptop up there, and the wireless signal was discoverable, but not strong enough to connect.
I have a landline extension running up there, so I could take the router up each time I wanted to work there, but that would mean that when I was up there, there would be no internets for my partner at home.
The first thing I'll try is moving the router to the attic, which might give a better range, but, if this does not work, is there a way round this? Some way of boosting the signal, or could I use a router on each phone socket?
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this - thanks.

you need a wireless Access point to boost the signal or if the office is on the same electricity supply then a pair of the Lan sockets like this

You could try Homeplugs, they will carry the signal via the mains wiring, so long as you are on the same meter. You have to buy at least two one will plug into your router via ethernet cable the other will plug into your computer also via ethernet.
Here is one supplier.

OP, is your office in the same building (upstairs/) as the main phone point? You imply this, but if so it can't possibly be one hundred yards, unless you live in a huge mansion!
If you are talking about the same building a couple of floors up, then either a better router (not a standard TT wireless G, try a wireless N instead for better range) or a pair of Homeplugs will do the job.No free lunch, and no free laptop
