Ridge tile problem - help!

I moved to a pitched roof, detached bungalow 18 months ago. After last February's snow, lots of the cement 'popped' from the ridge tiles. In June, I paid a friend of a friend a lot of money (I've since found out I was overcharged) to remove, reseat and repoint all the ridge tiles. I was initially pleased with the work cosmetically but now the recent snow has gone most of the new pointing has cracked and large lumps of cement are on the slates. It looks as if it needs completely re-doing.
Am I naive to expect the work to last longer than 6 months and should I expect the man to come back and rectify the work? The only thing I can think of is that the work was done on two extremely hot days - might that have affected it?
I was feeling stupid at having paid so much money but now I am just angry and worried as my home repair fund is running low.

Might have dried too fast or more lkely the mix was wrong. 1st call him back, ask for a re-fit. Should last +20 years if done right.0

It sounds like he has just repointed the tiles and not removed them and rebedded them. The little smear of mortar, put on, on a warm day has blown off due to the frost.0

He should return to rectify the job that he didn't do right in the first place, try asking your friend to "lean" on him if you experience problems.0

Repointing ridge tiles dose not work. might as walk to the drain in the road and put your money down it.. a bit of frost it falls out, also heat
To do the job right ,, ridge need talking off and relaying. . will then last 30 years +0 -

Thanks for that JW- that is exactly what he said he had done and what I paid him to do so it should have lasted 30 years, not six months. That's what I needed to know.0
