Got a dilemma here if any techies can give me a hand. I have put my old laptop on ebay and stated that I cant get into it as the computer is blocked. When you switch it on nothing loads up and it says enter HDD User Password. Unfortunately my daughter had a stupid password, then forgot it, then blocked it by repeatedly entering wrong password.
My poser is should I get it fixed and get more for it or should I continue with Ebay listing. I have had some offers for it...upto £70 and was wondering would it be worth getting it fixed myself and relisting etc as I have stated I could take it off as I have it advertised elsewhere.
Thanks in advance

It sounds like the BIOS password that's been changed? It's not impossible to fix, but it depends on how techy you are.
Have a look at some of the results here and see if you feel up to trying any.0 -
Try 6 zeros 000000 on the of chance, doubt it will work.
If it is the bios then will removing the internal cmos battery do the trick?
If all else fails is it viable to replace the HDD.0 -
sorry link above is free crap but charge to fix i think it would help if you say what machine you have, hardrive manufacturer, and os.
here is link for Fujitsu, Toshiba and Hitachi disks.
but you will need to do some work.

It is an Acer aspire 3680
Intel Celeron
Philips dvd - ram
Not really techie but that is the only info I can find when I press F2 to go to the set up utility0 -
bad idea to sell without getting full access and being able to remove any and all personal data on there.0
