Funding for 2nd PGCE

Just wondering before I do any serious research whether anyone has knowledge of this.

I did my PGCE in Post Compulsory education so I HAVE to teach in a college or dedicated sixth form. Which was fine whilst I had the hours I was doing. Now I've had my hours cut to 3days a week and to teach in 2ndry school I need to get QTS - I could teach at NQTS level but at a much reduced salary. So I'm looking to get into doing my PGCE again. Can't get a GTP post for love nor money!!!

I can't teach in another college as our college has taken over all the colleges in the area and I don't really want to travel as far afield as Rugby(I'm in Warwick).

I know the Student Finance doesn't pay for a 2nd degree but am wondering where they stand on PGCE's???

I'm not sure about the funding situation (although I'm not optimistic) but, depending on your teaching subject, have you looked at the flexible PGCE with the OU? Someone in your situation should be able to comlete it quite quickly.

Regards to normal funding from the SLC though, you would not be eligible under the Equivalent Level Qualification rules.

OU funding may differ though, so worth contacting them.

You could teach in a private school without QTS.

Just for info incase anyone else is looking - OU only do secondary PGCE not primary anymore. But as you are after secondary, that's Ok!

Bum!! They only do certain subjects!!! Mine (Business) isn't one of them.

However, I have registered to do the Postgraduate certificate in academic practice, which may help me find a part time post in HE - I teach on the foundation degree course so have no probs doing the 50 hours required HE practice.
