Cancel Sky - 13 month contract?

Hi I just called sky and emailed them earlier to give them 30 days notice to cancel contact. They said that the notice can only be given after the 12 month contract is complete which in effect makes the actual contract 13 months!

Is this right?

No it isn't. Call Sky again and tell them you wish to cancel effective when your contract ends.

cancel on the 11th month which will ineffect make the 12 month notice when that expires

They are spinning you a line. If it is 30 days notice and you let them know 30 days before the year is up, then you have given effective notice. Something to watch for is that if you go along with their argument, and leave it until the 12 months, they will probably claim your are signed up for another year. So in your position, I would write back and tell them that you regard the notice as effective and ask them to provide a copy of terms and conditions which show otherwise.

The other things you have to do are to keep copies of all correspondence for 6 years, in case they turn this into a debt claim against you - and to check that they do stop taking payment and keep checking.
