Thanks for highlighting this, and well done for sorting it out so well. It's an area I hadn't considered before, and am about to phone BT to ban premium numbers from my phone too, just in case!

I've just re-read my post. It might come across as being political - but it's certainly not meant to be. It's about how people who have power - whether public organisations or companies, in any country - just view you as a credit balance. There are no holds barred as they try to get that from you. They whip up emotion so you spend to feel safe, or so you spend to have the feeling of belonging, or you spend for comfort. Even if you're immune to that, they next try their techniques on those close to you to get to you through them.

So long as you work hard and spend it all. Or more than all of it.

The habbo hotel is a symptom of this, as are sugar laden "food" advertised during kids television, as are ring tones - all manipulating parents through their children. So are those cat kibble things (Can't believe they make so angry and I don't even own a cat  :rotfl: )

Even those ghastly Carol Vorderman adverts - notice how much they go on about how much better you'll feel once you've signed your life away?

The bright side is that it can't last so it won't. The dark side is that it can't last so it won't.

Anyway - hopefully that's the last of the ranting. :T

I blame Toto for that. :D

The number is for cheats for Habbo Hotel, which is some online game the kids play. The latest kid craze.

I will block premium rate numbers and oh yes indeed they will pay they wil be working this off when they are 25. I am furious!

My main worry is how the hell do I pay? I don't have that kind of cash just sitting around, at the moment I am working my but off to get this house redecorated on no money to get it on the market. I need the phone for the business, so can't risk being cut off!!!!!
habboo hote., my sister had the same problem with her kids buying stuff for rooms in the hotel on the phone bill, and I am sorry to say that it was my son who introduced them to it. When my older kids were teenagers I once had a bill for £200 for the quarter, I did look into having a pay phone but it was quite expensive so I just had the phone put on to incoming calls only till they left home. Very inconvenient for me but kids had no money. So you have my sympathy

So, we put an ad in the paper and put posters around town advertising a rave in the garage. We sold tickets at £5 each (hangs head in shame). We ended up with 250 people in my mum's garage, which was big enough for 4 cars. We had a BBQ, very loud music, bottles of beer at £1 each.

That's quality! Wish I'd thought of that. Did the police try to press charges?

My nephew was talking to me about this site a few months ago. I had no idea. I'll speak to him (and his mum) about it next time I see them.

This type of exploitation makes my blood boil.

We lied :D and said they were all our friends. The police guy looked suspicious and said... very popular people you two are! He then gave us a huge lecture about licensing laws (we were giving the beer away honest Mr plod, as my brother is shoving the beer money tin under the table with his foot). Obviously the police didn't believe a word of it, they aren't that silly, but he said if we disbanded our 'private function' within the next 10 minutes he would let it go. I think he saw the funny side to be honest. Mum didn't for a good 18 months, my word did we both suffer :embarasse

This Habbo hotel thing is rather wrrying. I tried an experiment earlier where I set up a character and just stood in a room, over half an hour I got about ten girls asking if I wanted to be thier boyfriend. The ages of these seemed to range from 12 to "18" and the worrying thing is the fact I kept telling them I am 25 didn't seem to phase them one bit. Although the site censors obvious words it would apear if you put a puntuation mark in the middle of it the word appears I found this where one girl asked if I wanted to go to her private room to (use you imagination)

Why do people let this sort of thing happen also looking at some of the rooms on there some people must of paid hundreds for thier own environment.

Yes the ones who spent hundreds were my kids!!!!

The whole issue of the chat room thing is really scary and if I am honest is my main motivation for wanting this site closed. I am going for all angles trying to get this thing stopped. Letters have been written today, I have even sent one to a friend who is a journalist with the guardian. I think this site should have some media spotlight, not only to save the parents phone bills, but most importantly to potentially save the kids from predators.
