Sounds like acne to me - although don't take my word for it, I'm far from being a vet! All I know is that the symptoms you describe are exactly like my Smudgie had, and the vet diagnosed acne. I did have plastic bowls, which I have since changed, and once she came off the antibiotics, she's never had a recurrence.
  • It really sounds to me like you need to find yourself a different vet, one who you don't mind visiting, doesn't cost as much and is (hopefully!) more effective.
Cats react differently from humans to certain chemicals, including chemicals found in essential oils, herbs and other natural remedies. If you're looking for a safe natural antiseptic, warm salt water is the best thing to use on any scratches, scrapes or infected bites or acne.

update - just when I posted about `the protest poo' I remembered that I didn't say how Mia's chin fared. I changed the plastic bowls for stainless steel & have been washing them more often (day & night basically - whether they are getting, wet, dry or raw) but also putting that antiseptic stuff on her chin & it's all gone back to normal.

I'm really rather concerned at these disinfectants, antiseptics, essential oils and bleach you've been using, all of which are extremely toxic to your cats!!!

Have you actually taken any veterinary advice or are you self-treating based upon what a bunch of people on the internet think is wrong with your cats??

    Unbelievable!! :wall:

Thanks for your concern. I have had cats my entire life.

I tried the essential oils for fleas & it didn't agree with them so I stopped.

The antiseptic was an aloe ointment especially for pets...

My cats do not like going to the vets & they are fine now thanks. If it had continued I would have taken the one with the strangely presenting chin to the vet. Quite often advice given by others on this site works v well - sometimes not.

My cats are 10 & 8 years old respectively. I bleach the litter boxes when I do a total change of litter - which is not that often - mostly I scoop the clumps & I use a natural litter. Feeding bowls are washed & rinsed with washing up liquid (same as mine - but obviously not together).

Mia is allergic to cheaper brands of wet & dry food so I do not expose her to chemicals except worming tablets (drontal) and flea treatment (currently Advantage). I feed my two the best I can afford, so in no way can I be accused of neglecting/experimenting on them.

I think you need 2 think about your tone. Happy Monday!

Bleach is toxic to cats. You also mentioned earlier in the thread that you'd used pine and cedar oils, both of which are highly toxic to cats. You've also admitted to using POM treatments without veterinary advice and are treating an undiagnosed abscess on her chin with disinfectant!!

And you wonder why I'm frustrated! LOL!!
