Advice on shirt bought from market stall please?

Hi, we bought a shirt for our son from one of the stalls from Affleck's Palace in Manchester for £35. Upon washing it for the first time (using the directions given on the shirt) 3 of the buckles have broken and/or fallen off (the shirt's a kind of goth-y type thing with buckles and zips on). We took it back and the lady there started talking about her speaking to the manufacturer and then (when I explained that her relationship with manufacturer didn't concern me) that she had to speak to the owner (who was conveniently in Scotland). She said to come back. I'm going back on Friday (and I intend to call them every day for updates if necessary). Has anyone got any advice? The reason I ask is that everything about her reaction was evasive and defensive at the time and I expect a mixture of denial, refusal and distraction techniques to greet me on Friday when I go back.

Keep pestering them they will probably refund you just to get rid of you. Make sure when your at the stall you make you points politely and calmly but loud enough enough for others to hear. Usually works.

Almost guaranteed to be some cheap knock off fake item.

I agree, just keep badgering getting vocally louder each time, they will only lose the £2 they paid for it in the first place so will refund to shut you up.

If she still doesn't play ball, say you have spoken to the manufacturer who have informed you it is fake... LOUDLY !!!

Mention that it is not fit for purpose it is defective in design as buckles & trim should not come off on 1st wash of a washable garment
Quote sale of goods act and that if they do not refund you there & then you will contact trading standards to lodge a complaint, the market officials and sue in the small claims court

"I am not going away so deal with it or pay the price" loudly but politely then do what you threaten if they fail to refund

You have the same right from a market stall as a shop & it is nothing to do with you wether the supplier will credit them if they return it,which is probably what they are worried about
Some wholesale suppliers will credit if returned within 7 days most of them won't even do that they are b*ggers but that is not your problem

    Good luck :T

They are within their rights to make sure that the item is faulty and not take your word for it (it is only your word that you followed washing instructions). Good customer services would be to refund straight away, but from experience market stalls don't tend to be concerned with customer services.

If they advise they will have to send it off, make sure you agree deadlines on how long it will take and chase it up if they fail to meet them.

Mention Trading Standards Office and take a picture of the stall , even if you're bluffing. Hang around moaning about the shirt whenever a prospective buyer approaches the stall. May get you your money back. Worth a try.
